A 72-year-old woman died after a Decatur motorcycle crash

DECATUR, Ala. (WAFF) – A 72-year-old woman died Saturday evening following a motorcycle crash in Decatur.

According to the Decatur Police Department, officers responded to a report of a single motorcycle wreck at 3026 Highway 20 at the Speedway gas station around 6 p.m.

After arriving at the scene, officers found an injured motorcyclist and a passenger. Both people were transported to Decatur Morgan Hospital.

Police said the passenger, identified as 72-year-old Janet Gay Smith of Athens, later died from her injuries.

The incident remains under investigation.
