CORINTH, Miss. (WLBT) – A high school student in Mississippi has died in a car crash.

According to local authorities, deputies responded to the call around 7:30 a.m. Monday.

The sheriff said teenager Callie Pounders, a Corinth High School student, was driving when she went off the road.

Pounders then overcorrected while trying to get back on the road and hit a tree.

She was taken to Magnolia Regional Health Center, where she died.

The Corinth School District released a statement Monday morning.

“In times like these, we must continue to unite and support each other as the Community of Corinth,” the statement read.

Counselors will be available throughout the school district to assist students and staff throughout the remainder of the week.
