The driver killed in a weekend off-road crash has been identified

CINCINNATI (WXIX) – The driver who was killed while driving off-road over the weekend has been identified.

According to the Butler County Coroner’s Office, 26-year-old Mitchell Bowens died Nov. 2 around 11:55 p.m. on Woodsdale Road.

Butler County Sheriff Richard previously said deputies and the Madison Township Fire Department were called to a single-vehicle crash around 11 p.m. that evening.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the driver of the black Jeep, now identified by the coroner as Bowens, was traveling off-road when the vehicle went over an embankment, causing it to overturn, Sheriff Jones said.

There were two passengers in the Jeep: a driver and a passenger.

Sheriff Jones said the driver, Bowens, was pronounced dead at the scene and the passenger was taken to hospital but was expected to be OK.

The coroner announced Monday that Bowens’ cause of death was compression trauma.

It is unclear whether drugs, alcohol and speed played a factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
