Texas Longhors vs. Game Preview Florida Gators

When the Florida Gators and Texas Longhorns faced each other in 1940, the Longhorns defeated the Gators 26-0. Since then, the programs have combined for a total of 1,285 wins, 34 conference titles and seven national championships.

As you can see, a lot has happened, but eventually both teams will face each other again, this time as members of the same conference.

The Florida Gators (4-4 overall, 2-3 SEC) looked dangerous last week against the Georgia Bulldogs with backup point guard DJ Lagway before he suffered an untimely injury in the second quarter. The Gators were forced to turn to freshman Aidan Warner, who failed to keep the Gators ahead. Florida ultimately lost 34-20.

Lagway hasn’t been ruled out for the Texas game, but if he can’t return in time, Warner will start again in Florida, which shouldn’t be a particularly difficult task for a Longhorns defense that should have Andrzej Mukuba come back after losing his defense due to injury in the match against Georgia.

But the Texas offense will have a more important task. Don’t let the score fool you against Georgia. The Gators defense hammered Georgia before offensive and special teams mistakes began to plague the team. The Gators have six interceptions in their last two games against Kentucky and Georgia, which is a concerning development for Texas QB Quinn Ewers, who has thrown interceptions in every game he has played in this year (except Michigan), including two against Vanderbilt in the last game .

Texas will need running backs Jaydon Blue and Tre Wisner to make big plays. The Gators’ defense has allowed over 140 rushing yards in each of the last three games this season and ranks next to last in rushing yards allowed in the SEC at 165 yards per game.

Texas is the favorite to win -21.5 points and ESPN, giving Texas a 90.9% chance, it would be easy for Texas fans to write off Florida as another 7-1 Longhorns victory. However, Florida, which hasn’t had a winning season in over three years, will have something on its shoulder and is no stranger to playing top-10 opponents at its level. If you remember, just a few weeks ago, Florida took Tennessee to overtime in Knoxville. And if Florida plays Texas like it did against Georgia, with or without Lagway, Texas could be in trouble.

Texas, however, wants to prove again that it is the top team in the country. This is what a great victory can be.
