A 34-year-old and a 32-year-old have been identified in connection with the fatal shootings in Augustów

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – The Richmond County coroner has identified two victims in two related shootings in Augusta, we learned Friday.

The Richmond County Coroner’s Office responded to Wellstar/MCG regarding a shooting death.

Coroner Mark Bowen said Jeremy Dontavious McGahee, 34, of Augsut, was transported to Wellstar/MCG by EMS from the 2100 block of C Street with at least one gunshot wound.

Bowen says he was pronounced dead at 8:28 p.m. An autopsy was scheduled.

The coroner’s office also responded to 2100 C Street in reference to a possible suicide.

Zyquan Jamarcus Franklin, 32, of Augusta, was found in the apartment with at least one gunshot wound and pronounced dead at the scene at 12:15 p.m., Bowen said. An autopsy was scheduled.

Bowen says the cases are related and are in the early stages of the investigation. Once next of kin has been notified, the identity of the victim will be released.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded to C Street around 9:34 p.m. for shots fired, killing two people.

Deputies say upon arrival they found one man and one woman who had been shot at least once.

Both victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment, where the man succumbed to his injuries.

The sheriff’s office says investigators are still on scene as of 11 p.m

Also on Thursday Chavious Kimmerlin, 50, was shot and killed in his home on Highland Avenue.

The shooting occurred amid a two-year wave of violent crimes it claimed the lives of over 180 people across CSRA.

Towns large and small on both sides of the Savannah River suffered. But Augusta, the region’s largest community, has been hit particularly hard.

The authorities do blamed most of the problem on gangs.
