Cameron County man charged with kidnapping and attempted murder of teenager

CAMERON COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — An Emporium man faces charges after he allegedly kidnapped and tried to kill a teenager last week.

According to an affidavit filed Thursday, 22-year-old Gabriel Smith abducted the teenager from her home in Emporium Borough and drove her to the area of ​​South Mountain Road.

The affidavit says Smith then allegedly put a gun to the girl’s head and fired a shot, narrowly missing the teen.

The affidavit states that Smith then sexually assaulted her and then took her home.

Smith is charged with attempted murder and offenses of kidnapping, aggravated assault, statutory sexual assault, corruption of minors and unlawful confinement.

He was arraigned Sunday before U.S. District Judge Mark Jacob, M.D., and remanded to the McKean County Jail, although he was denied bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11 a.m. Oct. 31 before District Judge Barry Brown of Emporium.
