Telangana Police arrests seven persons under POCSO Act in voyeurism case at CMR engineering college hostel – Telangana News

Telangana’s Medchal police have arrested seven persons, including two hostel wardens, under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act and other sections in connection with the voyeurism case at CMR Engineering College. The arrests were massive student protests demanding justice and responsibility.

Those arrested include canteen workers Nanda Kishore Kumar and Govind Kumar, both from Bihar, who allegedly recorded videos of the girls in the hostel bathrooms. Hostel guards KV Dhanalaxmi and Preethi Reddy were also accused of negligence and trying to cover up the incident.

The university’s senior management, including Varahabatla principal Anantha Narayana, principal Madireddy Janga Reddy and Chamakura chairman Gopal Reddy, who is the brother of former Chamakura minister Malla Reddy, face charges of complicity in failing to report the crime and pressuring staff to protect their reputations university .

The incident came to light when students noticed suspicious activity near the hostel toilets and reported it to the guards, who allegedly dismissed their concerns. Frustrated students organized a protest on January 1 and 2, which resulted in police intervention. Initially, a case was registered under voyeurism and personal security laws, but later additional charges were included under the POCSO Act.

The Medchal police, headed by Deputy Commissioner N. Koti Reddy, investigated the case and arrested the accused. Authorities urged the public, especially women and girls, to report safety concerns through a hotline for immediate help.
