Supreme Court quashes cheating case against Goa MLA Jit Arolkar

Arolkar, an MLA from Mandrem in Goa representing the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party, was booked on the basis of a complaint filed by Rawloo Khalap, who alleged that Arolkar sold a property in which Khalap was part owner and cheated him of ₹ 25.6 crore.

It was alleged that the sale took place in the years 2013–2018 without appropriate transformation of the land, division or development of the entire property.

Arolkar claimed that he was acting as an agent of two other co-owners and Khalap was not the owner.

The High Court rejected this allegation, stating that the name of Khalap and his ancestors appeared in the survey records.

Arolkar also argued that the dispute was civil in nature, but the High Court rejected this argument.

Therefore, this allowed the special investigation team to continue its investigation.

This led to Arolkar’s complaint to the Supreme Court.
