Relative responsible for couple’s suicide arrested by police

Hyderabad: On Tuesday, police arrested a man on suspicion of abetting the suicide of his relative, a teenage girl, along with her boyfriend in ORR. The teenager and 25-year-old P. Sriram died by suicide on Monday.

Ghatkesar police, who are investigating the case, are likely to charge the relative with extortion and threatening the victim.

It said the relative, who is 26, admitted to police that he took photos of the couple and harassed the minor in exchange for money.

According to the police, quoting the testimony of a relative, the minor stated that he had no money to give him. A relative then suggested that she sell her mother’s gold ring.

A relative of the minor explained that the girl’s parents knew about the affair and reprimanded her for it. “It was constant harassment that they couldn’t stand.” He said the family of the minor victim is still in shock.

Police said the accused relative’s father went to the victim’s family’s home to comfort her parents. Her furious family rejected him.

On Tuesday, the parents took the victim’s body to a relative’s house and organized a protest. The police arrived at the scene and calmed the family down, after which last rites were performed.

The police are still investigating the causes of the incident at ORR and checking whether other accused are involved in the case.

Police said the body of Sriram, a bicycle repair shop owner from Bibinagar in Nalgonda district, was handed over to his family who performed his last rites in the evening.
