Sun Xueling on punishments for criminals involved in fraud

According to an assessment by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), existing penalties for criminals involved in fraud are currently adequate. Depending on the circumstances of the case, fraudsters and money mules, including those involved in fraud impersonating government officials, could face charges punishable by up to 10 years in prison. Minister of State for Home Affairs Sun Xueling said this in response to a question from an MP in Parliament on Wednesday (Jan 8). She added that because many fraudsters are based overseas, making them difficult to identify and prosecute, the MHA has focused on punishing and deterring those in Singapore who facilitate fraud.
