Arteta fired? Arsenal opt for ‘dream’ replacement with the next two moves of the European giant being considered for the Gunners manager

Arsenal have reportedly already identified their ‘dream’ successor to head coach Mikel Arteta, with two clubs showing interest.

Arteta was criticized earlier this season as Arsenal have had a frustrating start to the 2024/25 season as are ahead of Liverpool in the Premier League title race.

Arsenal are six points behind table leaders Liverpool – who also have a game in hand – after dropping points against Brighton last weekend.

Liverpool overtook Arsenal as the most likely team to win the Premier League after Man City, while the Gunners’ hopes of winning the Carabao Cup were dashed in midweek. This happened after losing 2-0 to Newcastle United in the first leg of the semi-final.

Arsenal became overly reliant on set pieces and their strikers (with the exception of Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard) underperformed as they were toothless in front of goal for much of the season.

Arteta’s job is not in immediate danger he is the eighth favorite to sack the next Premier League manager.

Still, he will come under more pressure if Liverpool continue to slip away from Liverpool and fail to win a trophy. Reports in Italy (perhaps prematurely) indicate that Arsenal have chosen Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi as their ‘dream’ successor.

The Inter boss was heavily linked with Manchester United last year and he appears to be on Arsenal’s radar, with his team in a position to lead Serie A if they win the two games in hand.

An Italian report states that Arsenal are “watching and dreaming” of appointing Inzaghi, who is “intrigued” by the job opportunity. As for Arteta, it has been noted that he has “interest” from Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

Former Spurs midfielder Jamie O’Hara believes “people will question whether Arteta is a top manager” if they “remain trophyless this season”.

“It’s an important season for Mikel Arteta, I think he has to win the trophy. If he doesn’t do that, people will start to doubt whether he is the man who can take Arsenal to the next level,” O’Hara said.

“Don’t get me wrong, he did a fantastic job, he’s got Arsenal back in the team. They spent the money and he brought them back to the top of the table, but will he be the one to take them to the top? He would say yes because he won three trophies, although two of them are called shields. If they don’t win a single competition this season and go without a trophy, people will question whether he is a top manager.

“Arteta cannot blame the Carabao Cup balls for the semi-final defeat. What is he talking about? Both teams play with the same ball, whether it is a Puma ball or a Nike ball. If you kick it correctly, it will go where you want it to go! Look, I’ve played with Carabao Cup balls and Premier League balls, they’re slightly different, but if you hit one into the top corner, it still goes into the top corner.

“It’s another excuse from Arteta. There’s always an excuse or it’s someone else’s fault, they weren’t good enough!”
