An Arizona man shot and killed his wife and their 2-year-old son before committing suicide

A man fatally shot his wife and wounded his 2-year-old son in their Phoenix home before committing suicide.

Law enforcement received a report of a shooting on January 5 around 8:30 p.m. at an apartment in the Avilla Gateway complex. Upon arrival, police discovered that Andrew and Ashlee Corona were dead from gunshot wounds in a murder-suicide. This was reported by Fox 10 Phoenix.

Police said their 2-year-old son was also shot, but the boy is expected to recover.

Local outlet 12 News reported that a neighbor’s camera captured moments from Andrew and Ashlee’s last day. About 10 hours after they were seen walking past in soccer shirts, the camera captured three loud shots, followed by a pause and then another single shot.

Phoenix Police Sergeant Phil Krynsky said 911 callers reported there was an argument before the shots were fired. Neighbors told 12 News they had heard arguments in Coronas’ apartment before, but there was no indication the argument would escalate into violence.

Ashlee’s family remembers her as a compassionate and devoted mother to her son, Maverick.

“She was a vibrant, loving and caring person. She loved life and everything it had to offer. Singing and dancing were her passions. Devoted to Mavy, this mother loved her son with all her heart,” Ashlee’s family wrote in a caption from theirs GoFundMe page.

GoFundMe continues: “She was always available to anyone who needed her and touched the lives of many. She will be greatly missed by many, but will never be forgotten.”

The family added that any funds raised will go towards Maverick’s future care.

Ashlee’s brother, Rudy Lopez Jr., told Fox 10 Phoenix that Maverick is the “spitting image” of his mother and both sides of the family will be well taken care of.

Lopez remembered his sister as a talented artist. She, Lopez and their two siblings often danced and played together at parties, calling themselves “L-4,” he said.

While his grief remains fresh, Lopez said he will use Ashlee’s story to raise awareness about domestic violence and gun violence.

“It could be as simple as a little fight,” he said. – I don’t wish this on anyone.
