5 ways Green Bay has improved since its Week 1 game

5 ways Green Bay has improved since its Week 1 game

Green Bay Packers safety Evan Williams (33) celebrates beating the Houston Texans 24-22 during a football game on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts averaged an NFL-best 9.9 yards per pass attempt in man coverage this season, but that number dropped to 7.6 yards per pass attempt in zone coverage, ranking 19th. The Packers have played 75.7% of defensive snaps this season, the eighth-highest rate in the league, and their zone passer rating of 87.4 was the 13th-lowest allowed in the league in 2024. Green Bay also generated quarterback pressure on 33.1% of opponents’ downs against the zone, the 13th-best rate in the NFL.

A player to keep an eye on is rookie safety Evan Williams, who didn’t get regular playing time until Week 5. According to TruMedia, Green Bay was 5-1 in six starts and 7-0 when he played defense at least 30 times. They also won all 10 games in which he recorded at least one tackle. After Williams’ addition to the lineup, Green Bay finished the year seventh in the NFL’s run defense rankings (99.4 rushing yards allowed per game).
