Pakistan mines gold: geological surveys discover huge deposits worth £600 billion

Considering that the Geological Survey of Pakistan (GSP) has identified around 32.6 metric tonnes of gold deposits, estimated at around 600 billion Pakistani rupees, it seems that the neighboring country has hit the jackpot, as reported India times.

According to a TOI report citing Pakistani media, GSP discovered huge amounts of gold in the Indus River, brought by fast-flowing water from the northern mountainous regions of the country.

Moreover, the report stated that the Government of Pakistan has implemented Art. 144 prohibiting illegal gold mining in connection with illegal mining activities in the gold-rich Indus River.

The report added that when the water level in the river drops in winter, locals collect gold particles from the riverbed. The government of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province stated that gold was imported from the Himalayan region and stockpiled near Peshawar.
