Man found at scene of Richmond hit-and-run emerges from car shot by officers after refusing to put down gun, HPD says

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — The Houston Police Department confirmed that a man at the scene of a traffic accident in southwest Houston was shot by officers overnight and has since been hospitalized.

Authorities said officers were called to Richmond near Hillcroft shortly before 3 a.m. in reference to the crash and found only one vehicle with one person inside.

Officers say another car involved in the incident left the scene.

At one point, officers checked on a man in the driver’s seat, who HPD said got out of the car with a gun in his hand. Officers then ordered him to put down the gun, but authorities say the man did not comply.

HPD says the man then turned toward officers, who opened fire and struck him at least once.

The suspect was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

HPD said no officers were injured.

The services reported that they had spoken to witnesses who saw the accident that occurred before the shooting and were looking for people who may have been involved in it.
