Juna Akhara Saint found hanging in Haridwar apartment, investigation on: police

On Sunday, police said that a saint belonging to Juna Akhara, residing at Shanti Bhavan under Kankhal police station limits in Haridwar, was found dead.

Giving information about the incident, Manoj Nautiyal, in-charge of Kankhal police station, said that the police received information about the incident from Shanti Bhavan apartment in Haridwar.

“A saint aged around 70, identified as Sureshanand, was found hanging in a Shanti Bhavan apartment in Haridwar. He has been renting this apartment for the last 5-6 months,” the official said.

The official said that after receiving information, the police reached the spot, cut open the outer gate, retrieved the body and sent it to the district hospital for post-mortem.

“When we arrived, the gate was locked from the inside. The fire brigade and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team were called. After cutting the door open, we found a woman around 70 years old hanging from a fan,” the official said.

The FSL team present at the scene collected evidence.

“Prima facie, it looks like it was a suicide. He was a member of Juna Akhara. The entire matter is being investigated,” the police said.
