A man died in a crash on I-40 after being shot

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) – Metro police are investigating after a man with a gunshot wound died in a crash on Interstate 40 early Sunday morning.

We received a report about the accident around 2 a.m.

A man was driving on I-40 East, hit a retaining wall under the Fesslers Lane bridge and died.

Police say they don’t know whether the man was shot while driving or if he was shot outside the car and then got into the car and drove away. There is no word yet on whether there is another crime scene.

There was no one else in the car when officers found him, but it is unclear if anyone had been in the car with him previously.

That section of the road was closed in both directions for several hours as investigators at the scene collected evidence.

Police believe it was a targeted attack and not a random shooting. However, they did not say what led them to believe it was a targeted attack. They said they would release more information on Sunday morning.
