Matric 2024 results allegedly leaked and sold

An investigation has been initiated to determine whether the right to publish the results of the 2024 secondary school leaving examinations has been violated.

Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube confirmed on Monday that Jastrzębie and state security were involved in the case because they suspected they were victims of cybercrime.

The announcement came minutes before Gwarube was scheduled to honor the country’s best and the official release of results by the Quality Council for General and Further Education and Training in South Africa (Umalusi).

Gwarube said it came to light that a platform was set up where supposedly authentic mathematics exam results were sold to students.

The Department of Basic Education (DBE) remained silent for 48 hours as the investigation into Hawk’s case was at a sensitive stage.

“They preyed on innocent students and siphoned their money.”

Despite the possible breach, Gwarube assured that it had no impact on the integrity of the results.

“I want to assure South Africans that the results are safe from any manipulation.

“Whatever violation may have occurred, it happened at the very end of the verified results.

“We take this case very seriously and want an arrest to be made. “We are confident that law enforcement is moving at the appropriate pace to ensure this happens,” she said.

Part of the investigation was to check whether DBE systems were sufficiently secure and tight.

Once the results are obtained, they need to be shared with specific stakeholders so that they can start preparing for their own processes.

“There is a real possibility that this process has been compromised.

“If the violation occurred on the part of DBE, consequences will be drawn,” Gwarube confirmed.
