Plymouth Argyle will review the structure of the club’s football operations after confirming the departure of sporting director Neil Dewsnip.

The former England youth coach left the club shortly after Wayne Rooney’s departure as head coach earlier this month.

Dewsnip was appointed in December 2019 and oversaw the club’s promotion from League Two to the Championship under managers Ryan Lowe and Steven Schumacher.

He and coach Kevin Nancekivell also led the team to survival in the Championship last season following the sacking of Ian Foster.

However, he left because he was involved in the appointments of both Rooney and Foster, which led the club to just seven league wins between them.

“We have taken the opportunity to look at the whole structure of the football department,” chief executive Andrew Parkinson told BBC Sport.

“I must say and put on record that I think he has played a key role in the development of the football club we were five or six years ago in League Two.
