LSP releases more information on deputy-involved shooting

Louisiana State Police have released additional information about last week’s shooting.

The incident involved Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Deputy Davis and Mark Buller, 44, of Iowa. Troopers say a deputy stopped to help Buller, who was walking on Jan. 10 on a dark, rainy and dimly lit Highway 99 north of Welsh.

Troopers say a fight broke out and Buller took the deputy’s Taser and used it on him. He then allegedly tried to steal the deputy’s patrol car. The deputy fired his gun, but Buller was not injured.

Deputies immediately arrived on scene and officers were able to arrest Buller without further incident. Both the deputy and Buller were taken to local hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries suffered during the fight, troopers said.

According to a Facebook post from the sheriff’s office, Buller was booked into the parish jail for attempted first-degree murder, attempting to disarm a police officer, disarming a police officer, second-degree aggravated battery, resisting a police officer with force or violence and attempted theft of a motor vehicle. No bail has been set at this time, the post reads.

The post also indicated that at the time of the incident, Buller had an active warrant from the Jefferson Davis Sheriff’s Office for failure to register as a sex offender and simple burglary.

Officers say the investigation remains active and ongoing.
