Man charged after random robberies and arson in North Vancouver

A 42-year-old man is in police custody facing multiple charges, including assault occasioning bodily harm and arson, following a series of violent incidents in North Vancouver, according to police.

Following his arrest on December 29, 2024, Jeremy Lariviere of Vancouver was charged with two counts of assault, one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, one count of arson and four counts of criminal damage.

A statement from the North Vancouver RCMP says officers responded to a random attack at 100 Bewicke Avenue around 3:15 p.m. on Christmas Day.

Investigators say a 38-year-old woman was attacked after a confrontation with a man who was allegedly damaging a parked vehicle.

The suspect fled the scene before police arrived and the woman was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the statement said.

Half an hour later, North Vancouver police were called to the shipyard property on Lonsdale Avenue, where a suspect had attacked two people at a Christmas market.

“It is alleged that the same suspect struck a woman from behind and attacked her son, then fled before police arrived,” an RCMP statement said. “The woman suffered injuries and paramedics treated her at the scene.”

Four days later, on December 29, police were called to reports of arson being reported at a nearby apartment at 100 East Keith Road. Investigators say the same suspect started the fire around 6 a.m

“The fire was extinguished by fire crews before it caused serious damage, resulting in the evacuation of several people,” the statement read.

Lariviere was arrested later that day in the 1900 block of Lonsdale Avenue. “At the time of his arrest, the suspect was also allegedly in breach of the terms of a release order arising from an incident in connection with which he was arrested in November 2023.” – the police said.

Investigators are still looking for witnesses and video evidence from the alleged attacks on the Christmas Market in the Shipyard.

Anyone with information about the incidents is asked to contact North Vancouver RCMP at 604-985-1311. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Lariviere’s next appearance is scheduled for Thursday in North Vancouver provincial court.
