Brooke Shields shares the message she wants women to take away from her new memoir

Brooke Shields shares the message she hopes readers will take away from her new memoir, “Brooke Shields Never Aging: Thoughts on Aging as a Woman.”

In an interview with “Good Morning America”, the actress and model stated that the book’s message for women is that “the period of your life after 40 is a wonderful time and the only thing that matters is you.”

“You deserved it and now it’s your turn to feel truly supported by yourself and good with yourself,” she added.

Shields said the biggest misconception about women aging, in her opinion, is that “we’ve done well” and that women are “kind of being put out to pasture.”

“Every woman I know who is over 40 is absolutely fantastic,” she explained. “They are doing new things and having power in a way they have never had before.”

As for the book’s title, Shields remembers having a “wonderful conversation” with a man that she even found “very carefree and a little flirtatious” – until she mentioned her age.

“The moment I mentioned my age because we were talking about wine, his demeanor immediately changed and he said, ‘I really wish you hadn’t told me that,’” she recalled. “I thought that was a really interesting thing, that if for some reason you have been imprinted on you by the public or men, aging is not part of their plan for you and you will disappoint in some way.”

Shields joked that the reaction was because she “had the nerve to live to be 59” and get old.

“People want me to look like I’m in ‘The Blue Lagoon,'” she said. – But I don’t.

Shields also detailed what she has planned for her 60th birthday in May, revealing that it may be more low-key than many would expect.

“I can’t wait to be that age with my daughters and watch them really come into their own lives,” Rowan and Grier said of her daughters.

Shields said her birthday plans are more likely to involve “hanging out with the girls” and doing things like going to the spa or other fun activities “rather than throwing a big party.”

Brooke Shields’ book Don’t Get Older: Thoughts on an Aging Woman will be released on January 14.
