Match preview, injury report, betting odds, predicted starting lineups

Due to the postponement of the game against the Rockets, the Hawks are scheduled to play their next games against the Phoenix Suns. This is therefore a rare opportunity to immediately bounce back from a disappointing performance against the same team.

Despite taking down Jalen Johnson, the Hawks did a pretty good job of slowing down Kevin Durant and Devin Booker. Both stars scored over 20 points, but they did not take over this match as much as they could. Atlanta lost the game because Bradley Beal and Grayson Allen came off the bench and scored a combined 48 points off the bench, with both players having elite scoring stats. Beal shot 11-6 from the field and scored 25 points, while Allen was 7-8 (5-6 from three) from the field. This cannot be allowed to happen in today’s match.

Against Phoenix, Trae Young led the Hawks with 21 points and seven assists. It wasn’t Young’s signature game, but the Hawks rely heavily on him even when Johnson plays. With Johnson already sidelined, Young will have to shoulder an even greater workload. Currently, his illness raises doubts. If he doesn’t play, the Hawks will be at a huge disadvantage.

They have a difficult task ahead of them, but it is not an impossible task.

Heading into tonight’s game, the Hawks rank 7th in the NBA in PPG, 15th in FG%, 18th in 3PA, 19th in 3P%, 5th in FTA, 23rd in turnovers and 10th in rebounds . For Glass cleaningAtlanta ranks 15th in points per 100 possessions, 16th in effective field goal percentage, 19th in turnover percentage, 9th in offensive rebound percentage and 7th in free throw rate.

The Hawks currently rank 28th in PPG allowed, 25th in field goal percentage allowed, 29th in three-point shooting percentage allowed and 30th in three-point shooting percentage allowed. According to Cleaning the Glass, Atlanta ranks 21st in points allowed per 100 possessions and 28th in effective field goal percentage.

The Suns can get into a shootout with just about anyone. They rank 15th in the NBA in PPG, 9th in FG%, 14th in 3PA, 6th in 3P%, 11th in FTA, 10th in turnovers and 25th in rebounds. For Glass cleaningPhoenix ranks 11th in points per 100 possessions, 10th in effective field goal percentage, 13th in turnover percentage, 27th in offensive rebound percentage and 9th in free throw rate.

Their defense is rather average. They rank 19th in PPG allowed, 15th in field goal percentage allowed, 16th in three-point shooting percentage allowed, and 18th in three-point shooting percentage allowed. According to the Cleaning the Glass Index, the Suns rank 24th in points per 100 possessions and 15th in effective field goal percentage.

Since they will beat Jalen Johnson, the Hawks will be heavily reliant on a big game from one of their remaining wings. DeAndre Hunter was great for the Hawks, but against Phoenix he scored just 12 points on 3-9 shooting from the field. Zacchari Risacher’s defense is encouraging, but his attack is still a work in progress. Both Vit Krejci and David Roddy played good games with increased chances. This must continue, especially if Young is hampered by illness.

More consistent three-point shooting from Atlanta would also be huge in this game. After shooting 67% from three in the first half, the Hawks fell behind in the second half, shooting 3-14 from beyond the arc. On the other hand, the Suns continued to shoot well, with both Bradley Beal and Grayson Allen coming off the bench to help the Hawks. If the Hawks can maintain their good form for most of the game and have consistent benching, it will be much more difficult for Phoenix to overtake them.

One area where the Hawks have no excuse to dominate is chess. They were one of the best teams in the standings all year and were beaten by Mason Plumlee, Ryan Dunn and Bradley Beal. Those three alone grabbed 24 of Phoenix’s 42 rebounds, while the Hawks as a team had only 32. Capela had 10 rebounds, but it will take a team effort to reverse that trend.

A possible X-factor for the Hawks could be the presence of Bogdan Bogdanovic. He has really struggled to stay healthy this year, but one of his hot shooting efforts could easily turn the game around. In the last match he scored 17 points with a score of 3-6 from deep. While Bogdanovic is only shooting 34.9% on the season, he has shot 38.1% from deep over the last 10 games. If he starts to get back into shape, this will be a perfect game for him to burn down Phoenix’s exploitable perimeter defense.

Bogdan Bogdanovic (right knee inflammation) and Trae Young (illness) are probable, while Jalen Johnson (right shoulder inflammation) will be sidelined.

Grayson Allen will likely go to Phoenix while Jusuf Nurkic will be sidelined.

According to Fanduel SportsbookThe Suns are 5-point favorites today with a total of 234 points.
