A woman died in a crash after a car struck a horse on U.S. 231 in Coosa County

A Talladega woman is dead after a single-vehicle crash late Tuesday night.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) said Janice W. Bullard, 63, was fatally injured when the 2015 Chrysler 200 in which she was a passenger struck a horse standing in the roadway.

The crash occurred around 11:40 p.m. on U.S. 231 near mile marker 181, about eight miles south of Rockford in Coosa County.

ALEA reported that after the initial collision with the horse, the Chrysler left the roadway and hit a large rock.

ALEA said Bullard was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and second passenger also suffered injuries and were taken to UAB Hospital for treatment.
