Woman sentenced to three years in prison for beating her son to death

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ampang Sessions Court has sentenced a woman to three years in prison after she admitted beating her six-year-old son to death.

Judge Norshila Kamarudin ordered the 25-year-old mother to serve her prison sentence from Wednesday (January 22), and after serving her sentence, place her on probation for two years and prohibit her from caring for other children for five years.

The court also sentenced her to one year’s imprisonment if she failed to comply with the conditions.

She was accused, as the person caring for the boy, of endangering the child in a manner likely to cause physical harm by hitting, pinching and slapping the child to the point of death.

The incident occurred at a residence in Taman Bukit Ampang between 2 p.m. on January 8 and 6 p.m. on January 9.

Allegation, pursuant to Art. 31 section 1 letter (a) of the Children Act 2001, provides for a maximum fine of RM50,000 or imprisonment of up to 20 years or both upon conviction.

According to the facts, police went to the scene on January 10 after receiving a call at 2:36 p.m. on the same day about a victim who had lost consciousness in the apartment.

According to the mother, the victim had a high fever and convulsions. However, the autopsy results confirmed that the boy died as a result of blunt trauma to the head and abdomen.

The victim’s mother was arrested and a police investigation revealed that the victim had been beaten, slapped and pinched by his mother for constantly crying and urinating and defecating.

The woman has another child, six months old.

The proceedings were led by deputy prosecutor Muhammad Hairuliqram Hairuddin, and the woman was represented by lawyer Muhammad Aidil Akmal Sharidan.

Meanwhile, the woman’s boyfriend, 36-year-old Muhammad Redza Zainurin, was accused of murdering the same victim in the same place on January 10 at 2:36 p.m.

He was charged under Art. 302 of the Penal Code, which provides for the penalty of death or imprisonment of 30 to 40 years and at least 12 lashes if convicted.
