Chris Brown sues Warner Bros. for $500 million over sexual assault claims

Chris Brown filed a $500 million lawsuit against Warner Bros. Discovery, accusing the company of defamation in its latest documentary.

In a lawsuit filed Tuesday, Jan. 21, in Los Angeles Superior Court, Brown, 35, alleged that WBD and production company Ample Entertainment knowingly included false allegations of sexual assault in an Investigation Discovery report. Brown’s attorneys said the woman who accused him of rape in 2020, identified on the show only as “Jane Doe,” had previously been “discredited” and a “perpetrator of intimate partner violence and an aggressor herself.” (Doe’s 2022 lawsuit accuses Brown of sexual assault and battery on a yacht owned by Sean “Diddy” Combs was dismissed,” the lawsuit said.)

The “Forever” singer’s lawyers argued: “Put simply, this case is about the media putting its own profits ahead of the truth,” according to documents obtained by Diversity. “Since early October 2024, Ample LLC and Warner Brothers have been notified that, in pursuit of likes, clicks, downloads and dollars, they have been promoting and publishing false information to the detriment of Chris Brown. Ultimately, they aired “Chris Brown: A History of Violence” (“The Documentary”) on October 27, 2024, knowing that it was full of lies and deceit and violated basic journalistic principles.

Brown accuses WBD and co-defendant Ample of defamation and intentional infliction of emotional distress. “Nas” weekly. has reached out to WBD and Ample for comment.

‘This case is about protecting the truth,’ Brown’s lawyer Levi McCathern– wrote in a statement for People AND Deadline. “Despite providing evidence refuting their claims, the producers of this documentary intentionally promoted false and defamatory information in willful disregard of their ethical responsibilities as journalists. “Their actions undermine not only Mr. Brown’s decade-long efforts to rebuild his life, but also the credibility of real survivors of violence.”
