Seven police officers were injured while responding to a suicide call in A San AntonioTexas, neighborhood.

The gunman shot and killed four officers who initially responded after entering the apartment complex. The shooting It was first reported around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to KSAT, a San Antonio ABC affiliate. The shooter barricaded himself in an apartment complex for several hours following a standoff with San Antonio police.

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus held an impromptu news conference near the incident around 10:30 p.m. and explained to local media what had happened. It was initially reported that only four police officers were shot during the incident.

“The first officer responded to this call. There was a call from a family member,” McManus said. “He arrived at the scene and was shot in the lower limb. Another officer who arrived after him or around the same time as him was also shot. A third officer who arrived on the scene also shot. And then finally the fourth officer who arrived on the scene was shot, I presume in the upper torso.

“This is all preliminary information and is subject to change,” McManus added. “All four officers were taken to hospital. As far as I know at this time, these injuries are not life-threatening.”

There were three additional police officers apparently filmed following McManus’ comments. The officers also reportedly suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The suspected gunman was eventually found dead after a shootout with police officers that lasted several hours. It is currently unknown whether the killer died from a self-inflicted gunshot or from a shooting by San Antonio police officers. No information was released about the killer other than that he was a man in his 40s.

No motive for the shooting has been announced at this time.
