Tamil Nadu: Government teacher of the Eklavya school arrested for sexual harassment students – Tamil NEWS

The police said that the teacher of the government school in Salem Tamil Nadu was arrested for the alleged sexual harassment of students in the institution.

The accused, 37-year-old Ilaiyakannu, was a temporary teacher of education who taught students from classes from 6 to 10. He was reserved under the control of children against sexual offenses (Pocso) after many complaints.

The case came to light when the officials of the District Child Care (DCW) visited the school to conduct a awareness program. During the session, students were encouraged to speak about all problems or incidents of harassment with which they were. It was then that about 12 students found the courage to go forward and share their attempt, accusing Ilaiyakannu of sexual harassment.

A police complaint was immediately lodged and the company was registered against the teacher under the Pocso Act. Ilaiyakannu was quickly suspended in anticipation. Then the police inspector in the UMA district visited the school to conduct an investigation, after which the accused was arrested.

The Eklavya government school, in which the incident took place, is located in Salem’s Yercaud and will accommodate students from tribal families from Karumathurai, Arthur and Vazhapadi. Students remain and study at school.

Further investigation in the case is done, the police added.
