Butts County man arrested for allegedly attacking officers with a machete

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – A Butts County man has been arrested for allegedly attacking officers with a machete, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).

Courtney Deonta Reeves, 30, of Jenkinsburg, was booked into the Butts County Jail on suspicion of aggravated assault on law enforcement.

The GBI said it arrested Reeves after the Butts County Sheriff’s Office asked the agency to open an investigation into the aggravated assault of two deputies on Monday morning.

At approximately 9:20 a.m., Butts County officers went to a home on County Line Road to serve Reeves with an eviction notice.

The GBI says Reeves allegedly grabbed a machete and began attacking deputies.

Two deputies were injured and taken to the hospital. Both deputies are in stable condition and are expected to be released.

The GBI said it would conduct an independent investigation and forward the case file to the Towaliga County District Attorney’s Office for review.
