Tributes have been paid to a “loving mother” who died after being struck by a silver Ford Fiesta in Bellshill

Tributes have been paid to a “loving mother” who died after being hit by a car in North Lanarkshire.

Clare Ritchie was hit by a silver Ford Fiesta at around 9.30pm on Friday evening in the Crossgates area of ​​Bellshill.

Emergency services arrived at the scene, but the 41-year-old was pronounced dead a short time later.

The 36-year-old driver of the Fiesta was arrested for driving offenses and released pending further investigation.

The road was closed and reopened around 4 a.m. Saturday.

In a statement, Ms Ritchie’s family promised they would “make her proud and keep her memory alive”.

“Clare was a loving mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. The tragedy that happened on Friday shocked us all. We will miss her greatly, but we all promise that we will make her proud and keep her memory alive.”

Sergeant Andrew Coutts said: “Our thoughts remain with Clare’s family.

“Inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances. We are asking anyone who saw what happened to contact us. If you have dash cam footage that could assist our investigation, please contact us.
