‘She challenged him…’: Family of Delhi cafe owner claims estranged wife tortured him | Trends

The family of a 40-year-old cafe owner who allegedly committed suicide at his home in northwest Delhi on New Year’s Eve has alleged that he was forced to take his life by his estranged wife and her family.

In an interview with news agency ANI, the café owner’s sister claimed that hours before her brother’s body was found in their home, his wife and her family “stressed him out” and “dared him” to take his own life.

“They told him, ‘You can’t do anything, if you dare, die by suicide.’ Before he died, he shot a video on his phone. In the recording, he said everything, how they put psychological pressure on him. They threatened to throw him to our parents in the street and even threatened him not to open the shutter of his shop,” she said.

His mother demanded justice, saying her son suffered in silence. “She kept torturing my son and he suffered in silence. My son was doing well, but yesterday she tortured him so much that he decided to take this step. I have lost my son, please ensure justice for him and let his soul rest in peace,” she told ANI.

Dispute over common interests

According to reports, the couple got married in 2016 but split two years ago. They were in divorce proceedings, and during the negotiations, disputes arose. In an interview with ANI, his sister explained that the couple ran a baking business together and when the first divorce petition was signed, it was decided that each of them would run their two shops separately.

However, she alleged that his wife also demanded a share of his premises. He claims that his estranged wife recently hacked into his Instagram account.

“She behaved inappropriately towards people through her Instagram account. Because of this, my brother had to call her at 3 a.m. We have a recording,” she added.

The family filed a complaint with the police, demanding action against the 40-year-old’s estranged wife and her family. The police announced that the investigation into this case is ongoing and the man’s body has been secured for an autopsy.
